TV continues to slowly awaken to the AIDS threat. CBS has completed four 15-second public-service announcements on AIDS prevention that will begin airing during prime time, daytime and late night within a few days, the Washington Post reported Thursday. The announcements do not mention contraceptives but stress, instead, that the risk of sexually transmitted diseases can be reduced. In another development, CBS affiliate KLAS-TV in Las Vegas has become the latest broadcaster to accept commercials for condoms. A station official said the ads are “crucial to confront the deadly plague known as AIDS.”
