There will be no morning summitry in America this year. “Good Morning America’s” departing host David Hartman has turned down an offer from “Today’s” Bryant Gumbel to be interviewed in a segment appearing simultaneously on the two shows’ networks, ABC and NBC, respectively. “He was nice, but he just said no,” said “Today” executive producer Steve Friedman. It was also rumored that “GMA” producers nixed the deal on the grounds that it would help “Today” more than it would help ABC’s own show. Hartman is declining all interview requests at least until Friday, which is his last day on “GMA.”
