A citywide police task force aimed at street drug sales in Los Angeles netted 1,145 suspected peddlers of heroin, cocaine and marijuana in a three-day operation last week, police said. The arrests were the most ever made by the task force, which has operated intermittently since June, 1985, to try to curb blatant narcotics dealing in residential areas, Lt. J. R. Schiller said. A similar operation last June resulted in 709 arrests. More than $285,000 worth of narcotics were seized, mostly cocaine, and 50 weapons confiscated in the latest operation.
