MET OPERA TOUR OF JAPAN SLATED

Only months after abandoning its domestic touring, the Metropolitan Opera announced Thursday that it will make its first tour abroad in 12 years when it goes to Japan in May and June of 1988.
The Met’s general manager, Bruce Crawford, said the company will perform three operas in Japan with a schedule of nine performances in Tokyo and four each in Nagoya and Osaka. In addition, James Levine will conduct a Met orchestra concert in Tokyo with soloists Placido Domingo and Kathleen Battle.
