The Region : Six Prisoners Injured in Bus Accident

Six minimum-security prisoners were injured when a bus carrying them to a dairy farm at the Los Angeles County Jail’s Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho in Castaic plunged down a 20-foot embankment, sheriff’s deputies said. One prisoner, Benjamin Ortiz, 28, suffered head injuries and was placed on life-support systems at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia; two others were listed in serious condition with head and internal injuries and another was found to be suffering from two broken collar bones. Three others aboard the bus, including the driver, sustained less serious injuries.
