Two illegal aliens were arrested Monday night after they allegedly stole an idling car containing a woman and her 11-month-old baby, Oceanside police reported.
Before their arrests at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint at San Onofre, the two men released Margarita Pimental, 20, and her son, Ezequiel, unharmed in the downtown area.
The abduction occurred about 7:45 p.m. when Jaime and Margarita Pimental and their son were going out for the night and stopped by a friend’s house, Sgt. Bill Krunglevich said.
The father entered the home in the 1400 block of Shoshone Street in Oceanside, leaving his wife and son in the car with the engine running. When he came out of the home about three minutes later, the car was gone, police said.
Jaime Pimental, 23, notified police, and Border Patrol agents stopped the car and arrested Edgardo Rocha, 28, and Felipe Hernandez, 31, both of Sonora, Mexico, Krunglevich said.
The men were held on suspicion of kidnaping and auto theft.
“They were attempting to go north, and they were seeking a car to go in,” the sergeant said. “And they found a nice one with the engine running.”
