A 9-year-old boy died after he rode a skateboard into the street and was struck by a Volkswagen bus being test-driven by a man visiting from South Africa, Santa Ana police said. The boy, David John Amundson of Santa Ana, had been kneeling on a skateboard and racing with a friend when he entered the street in the path of the vehicle, police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said. The accident happened at 3:55 p.m. at 1114 N. West St. The driver was testing the vehicle from a local dealership, Thomas said. The child was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where he died at 5:36 p.m., authorities said.
