A fugitive wanted in connection with a slaying in Birmingham, Ala., surrendered to San Diego police early Friday.
The father of Allan Dean Smith, 29, called police about 2 a.m. and told officers to meet him at Imperial Avenue and 25th Street, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. When police arrived, they met Benjamine Smith, who told officers that his son was being sought for murder in Alabama and that he wanted to give himself up.
Robinson said police took Allan Smith into custody in the 2400 block of K Street without incident.
Smith, who also had an alias of Allan Dean Bell, was being sought on suspicion of murder in a stabbing in early February, police said.
