Rock Kills Motorist in Malibu Canyon

In a freak accident, a Sherman Oaks man was killed when a falling rock crashed through the sun roof of his car Saturday morning in Malibu Canyon, authorities said.
Richard Aikman, 45, was fatally injured when the rock struck him on the head as his southbound car was approaching a tunnel on Malibu Canyon Road south of Mulholland Drive, said Officer Kent Buzbee of the California Highway Patrol.
The car continued through the tunnel and came to rest after striking an embankment, Buzbee said.
The accident was not necessarily caused by the rain, he said, as rock slides occur frequently in the area during dry spells as well.
Aikman was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said.
