The body of a Santee man was found by a rock climber on a rugged hillside in Mission Trails Park over the weekend, the San Diego County coroner’s office said.
Deputy Coroner Jack Larkie said it appeared that Robert Stebbins, 42, fell from a cliff and broke his neck. He had been dead about three days.
Larkie said the body was discovered Saturday afternoon by David Tatro in a remote area about one mile north of Mission Gorge Road and less than a mile from Father Junipero Serra Trail. Helicopters were used to take investigators to the isolated site.
Larkie said Stebbins, who often hiked in the area, was wearing a knit polo shirt, jeans and sneakers.
Stebbins leaves a 17-year-old son, Shea, who lived with him.
