Santa Monica High School seniors Josh Brock, a midfielder, and Jonah Goldstein, a goalkeeper, were named to the All-CIF Southern Section 4-A soccer team selected by coaches. Santa Monica senior midfielder Drew McClaren made the third team.
Other selections from Westside schools were St. Bernard sophomore forward Danny Melendez, a first-team 1-A selection, and teammate Vince Del Olio, a junior defender. Katherine Caulfield, a senior midfielder for Beverly Hills, was named to the girls 4-A second team.
Venice High School senior Derek Vaughn was awarded a National Basketball Assn. scholarship of $1,000 by the Los Angeles Lakers for academic achievement, school and community involvement and his essay on “The Importance of a College Education.”
West Los Angeles College Police Capt. Ron Engen won a gold medal, two silvers and three bronzes at the Arizona Police Olympics. Engen was a member of the winning 400-meter relay team, took seconds in the 110 hurdles and the 100-meter dash and was third in the long jump, 50-meter dash and in arm wrestling.
Joe Kosco, a Penmar Golf Course starter for 13 years, has retired.
