Hearing on Western Avenue Properties
The second of several planned workshops and hearings to prepare a development plan for some Western Avenue commercial properties will be held by city planners at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Red Cross building at Western and 1st Street in San Pedro. Residents, merchants and commercial property owners may attend.
The proposed plan is intended to establish design guidelines for a business strip near Trudie Avenue, where property owners have accused the city of trying to impose building and sign standards they do not want.
To counter criticism that it ignores the community, the city conducted an opinion survey among merchants, owners and residents in the area and scheduled workshops to involve them in the planning process.
