Army’s Bradley Vehicle Recalled

WASHINGTON — Prompted by a sinking a week earlier, the Army today suspended amphibious operations with its Bradley fighting vehicle until critical hinges on the front of the personnel carrier can be modified.

Chief of Staff John A. Wickham Jr., in a directive sent to all units, also disclosed that safety investigators believe that the sinking of a Bradley last week at Ft. Benning, Ga., was caused by “operator error” in erecting the vehicle’s “swim skirt.”
