Times Honors Top Prep Basketball Players, Coaches

Anthony Jenkins of Pius X High School was named The Times’ Southeast boys basketball Player of the Year at an awards brunch Sunday at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel.
Jenkins averaged 23.9 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.
Southeast boys Coach of the Year is Bruce Carlisle, who led Whitney to the Southern Section Small Schools title for the second straight year.
Kari Parriott, who led the area in scoring with 29 points a game, was named Southeast girls Player of the Year, and her coach, Eleanor Dykstra, won Southeast coach honors for guiding the Crusaders to the Southern Section 1-A title.
Darrick Martin, a junior guard at St. Anthony, was named South Coast boys basketball Player of the Year.
Martin set the Long Beach regular-season scoring record with 724 points. He averaged 30.6 a game.
Bill O’Dell of Millikan, who led his Rams to the Southern Section 5-A championship game, was named South Coast boys Coach of the Year.
Mandy Hannah of Compton, who averaged 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, was named South Coast girls Player of the Year.
Van Girard, who led Lynwood to a 28-3 record, is the South Coast girls Coach of the Year.
