The New York Yankees put outfielder Rickey Henderson on the 15-day disabled list with an injured right hamstring. Henderson missed five games before starting Thursday night against the Brewers in Milwaukee. He was forced to leave the game after aggravating the injury.

Henderson leads the American League in stolen bases with 23. He is batting .324 with 10 home runs and 18 RBIs.

The Yankees also said that first baseman Don Mattingly had returned to New York to be examined for a lower back problem. He left Thursday’s game in the sixth inning because of back spasms. Mattingly has hit in 15 straight games.
