Two Long Beach police officers, suspected of taking money and drugs from motorists they stopped for violations, were arrested after a sting operation earlier this week.
Officer Tom J. Beasley, 28, a five-year veteran, was arrested Monday on suspicion of embezzlement after allegedly keeping marijuana that he was supposed to turn into the Police Department as evidence. Beasley was suspended with pay pending a police hearing next week, according to Lt. John Bretza of the internal affairs section which conducted the weekend sting operation. Reserve Officer Theodore Karant, 23, a police volunteer, was booked early Sunday morning for felony grand theft.
Both men posted bail and were released from jail, Bretza said.
