J Barney Malesky has been named the new curator of education for the Bowers Museum, and Gerald S. Werby has been appointed the institution’s new business manager.
Malesky, 36, joins Bowers after three years as museum educator for the Dallas Museum of Art. He also worked as an art educator in the Texas and Louisiana public school systems for 10 years.
He holds a master’s degree in museum education/video programs from Southern Methodist University and a master’s in art history/contemporary architecture from North Texas State University. Malesky replaces Joan Primm, who left Bowers in late 1986.
As the museum’s first business manager, Werby will start accounting, purchasing and payroll systems as the museum undergoes its transition from city to private governance. Werby joins the museum after several years as a controller and financial manager in the private sector.
