News Corp.’s profit soared 217% to $544.4 million for the year ended June 30. Rupert Murdoch’s Adelaide, Australia-based company, the world’s largest media group, said this year’s results included an extraordinary gain of $303.1 million from the sale of its Australian television operations. Operating earnings rose 45%, the company said. Revenue rose 31% to $3.5 billion. The company said U.S. operations, including the New York Post, Boston Herald and seven television stations, contributed 47% of operating profit. Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. achieved particularly strong results, the company added. British operations, including the Sun and the Sunday Times, also were well up.
