Exxon sued Texaco for $123.6 million, the amount Exxon claims is Texaco’s share of a $2.1-billion judgment that the U.S. Supreme Court levied against Exxon. The court has ruled that Exxon overcharged customers for crude oil produced from an East Texas oil field before 1981. Since paying the judgment, Exxon has been trying to collect more than a third of the amount from more than 300 parties with working interests in the field. The claim against Texaco is the biggest of four related suits filed by Exxon.
