Santa Monica : Ban on Toy Guns Approved
The City Council has given final approval to an ordinance banning the sale of realistic-looking toy guns.
Councilman Alan Katz, who sponsored the measure, said the law was necessary to protect children’s safety. The law had already passed its first reading earlier this month and Tuesday night’s 6-1 vote was a formality.
The ordinance will take effect in 30 days.
The dissenting vote came from Councilwoman Christine E. Reed, who said it “doesn’t make sense” to issue the ban at a “small-city level” and while real guns still can be purchased.
