A purported drag racer was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after his car struck and killed a man who had been pushing a disabled vehicle up a street in Huntington Park, authorities said.
William Ruiz, 19, and a second driver were drag racing on Grande Avenue west of State Street, California Highway Patrol Officer Richard Perez said.
Ruiz, who was driving a 1987 Ford Mustang, struck Randall Luna, 20, who had been pushing a 1967 Chevrolet Malibu up the street. Luna died a short time later at St. Francis Medical Center.
The second drag racer was released pending further investigation.
