Election Panel OKs Hart for Federal Funds

WASHINGTON — The Federal Election Commission today certified Gary Hart eligible to receive federal matching funds for his revived campaign for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination.
That clears the way for Hart’s campaign to receive $100,000 early next week from the U.S. Treasury, commission spokeswoman Sharon Snyder said.
FEC approval of Hart’s “threshold submission” by a 6-0 vote is the first hurdle to be cleared by the former Colorado senator’s campaign on the way to what aides have said should be $940,000 in federal matching money.
Hart’s certification is based on money raised last spring in his first 1988 campaign.
