Community College Baseball : Churchill Helps Cypress Win Opener

Tim Churchill had three hits and three RBIs to lead Cypress College to a season-opening 10-2 victory over Victor Valley in the first round of the College of the Desert baseball tournament Friday at Palm Desert.
Churchill, a sophomore transfer from Fullerton College, had a two-run double in Cypress’ three-run eighth. Cypress led, 4-2, going into the eighth.
Cypress also added three more runs in the ninth. Jeff Paterson and Paul Bunch had three hits each for Cypress, which had 13 hits but made 4 errors.
Brian Behnke pitched the first 5 innings, giving up two runs and six hits, to get the victory.
In another College of the Desert tournament game:
Orange Coast 12, Mt. San Jacinto 3--Derek Dehashtian hit a pair of two-run home runs for Orange Coast (1-0) in the first round. J.J. Culpepper and Jason Young added two-run singles for OCC.
