Students who want business and law degrees but don’t want to go to graduate school for five years can take advantage of a new joint-degree program being offered by Western State University College of Law in Fullerton and Chapman College in Orange.
Under the program, students enrolled in one school can start working toward a degree at the other and graduate in three years with both a law degree and a master’s in business administration.
“The end result is lawyers who understand business and businessmen who understand the law,” said James Brower, dean of Western State. The result is “certainly one of the most useful professional degree combinations available,” he said.
Brower, who holds both degrees himself, said the business degree is especially valuable to lawyers who want to practice corporate law or join a company’s in-house legal staff.
About 10 Western State students will take business courses at Chapman, which started its semester last week, he said. Interested Chapman students will not be able to start taking courses at Western State until this summer, Taylor said.
