Turkey to Limit Sale of Tobacco, Alcohol

IZMIR, Turkey — Turkish Health Minister Bulent Akarcali said Sunday that the government plans to ban cigarette and alcohol sales to people aged under 18.
Akarcali, who plans to puff his last cigarette on television this month as part of a campaign to persuade Turks to stop smoking, has already banned smoking on domestic Turkish Airlines flights.
He told reporters in the western city of Izmir that he will start to prepare measures soon to prevent cigarette and alcohol sales to minors, the Anatolian News Agency said.
There is no age limit at present on buying cigarettes and alcohol, though consumption of alcohol by people under 18 is forbidden.
