U.S. military officials said they are conducting counterterrorist exercises at Clark Air Base north of Manila in preparation for threatened Communist rebel attacks against Americans. A television report by the U.S.-run Far East News said the exercises deal with anti-American demonstrators, the taking of hostages, kidnapings and terrorist bombings. “The threat of terrorist activity in U.S. military installations and particularly at Clark is not taken lightly,” the report added. The Communist New People’s Army, which claimed responsibility for the slayings of three Americans and a Filipino outside the base last year, has said it will resume strikes against U.S. targets “in due time.”
