PIRAEUS, Greece — Stefka Kostadinova of Bulgaria improved her world indoor record in the women’s high jump, leaping 6 feet 9 inches Saturday.
Kostadinova cleared the record height on her second attempt during an international track and field meet.
The previous world indoor mark was 6-8 3/4, set by Kostadinova in the World Indoor Championships at Indianapolis in March, 1987.
Kostadinova, who also holds the world outdoor record of 6-10, made one attempt at 6-10 3/4 but knocked down the bar.
“I hope to break it (6-10 3/4) before the end of the winter season,” she said. “If not, I will clear it in the summer.”
