Jesse Jackson has been the subject of 11 books, including a Yale University Press study by Adolph L. Reed Jr. entitled The Jesse Jackson Phenomenon: The Crisis of Purpose in Afro-American Politics. Periodical literature about him is so voluminous that Janet Sims-Wood and George Hill have edited a guide to it, From Country Preacher to Presidential Candidate: A Guide to Resources on Jesse Jackson (Afro Resources Inc.).
Most recently, Jackson himself has written a book entitled Straight From the Heart (published last year by Fortress, the Lutheran publishing house). That book was billed as an autobiography but read much more like a collection of speeches. Another autobiography, A Time to Speak: The Autobiography of Jesse Jackson, announced by Simon & Schuster for January, 1988, has been postponed indefinitely.
