Local News in Brief : Woman Crossing Street Struck by Car, Killed

A22-year-old Northridge woman was hit by a car and killed as she crossed a street against a red light, police said Sunday.
Witnesses told police that Deborah Cuthbert stepped into the pathway of a northbound car about 9 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Reseda Boulevard and Prairie Street in Northridge, said Los Angeles Police Officer Dennis Smith of the Valley Traffic Division.
The car’s driver, Mathew Thomas Schmieglitz, 18, of Encino, did not see Cuthbert, Smith said. Schmieglitz was not cited.
