A new poll shows that state voters oppose a June ballot measure that would declare people with AIDS contagious and require that they be reported to local health officers. The survey conducted by Teichner Associates of Los Angeles and Philadelphia showed California voters opposing Proposition 69 by a 50%-32% margin. Two years ago, a nearly identical ballot measure was defeated. Critics have said the initiatives could lead to quarantines of those with the deadly acquired immune deficiency syndrome and mandatory testing of anyone suspected of carrying the virus. Almost 1,400 registered voters were surveyed from Wednesday through Saturday and represented all geographic and political regions proportionately. The poll was released to the San Francisco Examiner, KRON-TV in San Francisco and KABC-TV in Los Angeles.
