Nude Man Killed by Bear in German Zoo

SCHLITZ, West Germany — A man who took off his clothes and climbed into a bearpit here in the middle of the night was been found mauled to death, West German police said Sunday.
The brown bear, an adult male in a private zoo in this small town, 55 miles northeast of Frankfurt, was guarding the body when the zoo owner noticed it, police said.
Police recovered the body after a veterinarian tranquilized the bear. Police said they could not identify the man.
