At USC, the Facts Speak for Themselves
In recent weeks, Viewpoint published letters from several readers--Jon Blank of Agoura (Feb. 27) and Berry Resnick of Orange (March 12)--which have sarcastically referred to USC’s academic program in regard to our student athletes.
Let’s present the facts:
--Not only has USC won more national team championships than any university, 71 men’s and 13 women’s, but Troy also leads the nation in NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients, 34.
--USC’s football team has produced 17 academic All-Americans, tops in the Pac-10, and seven National Football Foundation scholar-athletes.
--There have been six Trojan winners of the prestigious NCAA Today’s Top Six scholar award, the most of any school.
--From USC playing fields have come a Rhodes scholar, quarterback Pat Haden, and a Luce scholar, swimmer Dennis Scannell.
I could go on, but I think you get the point.
