An article by Times staff writer Sharon Dirlam, “Into the Wilds of Tasmania,” has won a Gold Award in competition sponsored by the Pacific Asia Travel Assn.
The association’s director of communication, Graham C. Hornel, commended the “motivational and informational value” of Dirlam’s tale of adventure on the storied Australian island.
“The judging panel’s selection of Dirlam’s article recognizes the very high quality of her work,” Hornel said, adding that a record number of entries were received in all categories this year.
Dirlam’s report, which appeared May 10, 1987, in The Times Travel Section, won in the association’s newspaper division.
