The king and queen of Sweden made an unscheduled stop to see reclusive Hollywood legend Greta Garbo on Saturday during their visit to New York. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Garbo, 82, at her East Side Manhattan apartment, but said “out of respect” they wouldn’t furnish details of the visit, or answer questions about her health, rumored to be frail. The Swedish-born actress stunned the movie world when she withdrew from public life at age 36, when she was at the height of her career. The Swedish royal couple were visiting New York as part of a celebration marking 350 years since the first Swedish settlers landed in North America to establish a colony, called New Sweden, on the banks of the Delaware River.
