At Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., Posen won the Forerunner Stakes, a $75,000-added, 1 1/16th-mile turf race, by 6 lengths. Kentucky Derby hopeful Purdue King was a disappointing fourth.
Despite the win, trainer Woody Stephens said he plans to keep Posen, ineligible for the Derby, running on grass. “He’s got a foot this big,” said Stephens, holding his hands wide apart.
Posen, ridden by Don Brumfield, paid $11.00, $5.00 and $4.00. Word Pirate was second, and Denomination third.
