HUD Accepts Inspectors for FHA Home Mortgages
- Share via
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development informed lenders it will now accept inspection by members of the American Society of Home Inspectors on houses financed by FHA-backed mortgages.
HUD requires a property appraisal prior to the mortgage commitment. If the appraiser is not satisfied with the condition of one or more components of the house, such as heating, plumbing or roofing, then HUD can require a further inspection.
Previously, these inspections had to be performed separately by contractors or engineers licensed in the individual trades.
ASHI members are listed in the telephone Yellow Pages under building inspection services.
