Angelina Garcia, the 8-year-old Carson girl stabbed by an apparently deranged woman while walking home from school, was discharged Friday from the Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where she had been treated for wounds on her neck, head and back.
Charged with attempted murder Friday was Alma Martinez, 33, who lives nearby, police said. The attack took place Wednesday a few blocks from Dolores Elementary School, where Angelina is in second grade.
Martinez’s parents told police that she is a former patient of a Norwalk mental health facility and has been acting strange lately. Martinez has also been booked on suspicion of attacking her mother that same afternoon with a 2-by-4 beam, according to authorities. Police said that if a charge is filed, it would be a separate case.
