Darin Pleasant won all three sets and Kane Lai won two of three sets to lead Westlake to a 10-8 victory over Marina in a Southern Section 4-A Division playoff Friday at Marina.
“I think our team could have done better,” Coach Jaime Baragas said. “I guess we didn’t concentrate that well. I think we were ready to win.”
Westlake was playing without Robert Light, its second-seeded singles player who was sidelined by the flu. Light is expected to return Tuesday when the Warriors face El Toro in the quarterfinals.
Burbank 14, St. John Bosco 4--The doubles team of Al Lewis and Ron Allen won all three of their sets to pace the Bulldogs to a Southern Section 3-A Division win at Lakewood Country Club.
Burbank Coach Clyde Richards said Lewis and Allen played “the best tennis of their careers.”
Mark Nielsen and John Chun each swept three sets in singles play for Burbank (22-1), which advances to Tuesday’s quarterfinals against Laguna Beach. Burbank has won 15 consecutive matches.
