A 25-year-old Anaheim man was being held in a hospital jail ward Monday on suspicion of attempted murder after police said he shot and critically wounded his wife, then turned the gun on himself after a quarrel at their home.
Maria Miramontes, 33, was listed in critical condition Monday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was taken after the incident at 7:48 p.m. Sunday at the couple’s apartment in the 1200 block of Dresden Street.
Her husband, Manuel Miramontes, was listed in guarded condition at the medical center. His bond was set at $250,000.
Anaheim Police Lt. Peter De Paola said officers responded late Sunday to a report of gunshots and a woman screaming at the Miramontes address. Police found the woman with several gunshot wounds to her chest and the husband suffering from a single gunshot wound in the mouth.
De Paola said an investigation indicated that the husband drew a pistol on his wife after an argument and began firing.
