Newsroom and technical personnel at KTTV Channel 11 have voted overwhelmingly to reject a contract proposal by Fox Broadcasting. Dick Smith, vice president of the National Assn. of Broadcast Employees and Technicians Local 53, said late Wednesday that the “contract was rejected by an even larger majority than it was the first time on May 31.” Among the sticking points between labor and management: periodic layoffs and day-by-day hiring of key technical personnel. “(We have) an angry group that is dismayed at what’s going on and expressed themselves with their votes,” Smith said, adding that he does not think NABET will call a strike on Fox Broadcasting.
