Monrovia : Lighting Assessments Hiked

The City Council has voted unanimously to raise assessments for the city’s street lighting district from about $28.35 a year per household to about $30.05 for the coming fiscal year. Public Works Director Robert Stanwick cited increased electricity costs as the main reason for the 6% hike, but added that the rate is still 21 cents below what it was two years ago.

The council also voted 4 to 1 to raise assessments for the street tree maintenance district from $14.95 a year per single family parcel to $18.87. The increased revenue would go toward the city’s sidewalk maintenance program to repair walkways damaged by Monrovia’s 12,000 trees.
