Jeff Sofro GLENDALE . . . 6-2,180 . . . SR.
Sofro, an All-Glendale selection in basketball, made a successful switch from shortstop to third base this season. “Without question, Jeff had the strongest, most accurate arm on the team,” Glendale Coach Chris Axelgard said. Sofro was no slouch at the plate, either, batting .397 with an on-base percentage of .620 in Pacific League play. He also had 13 runs batted in and struck out only eight times.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR Bob Moser GLENDALE . . . 6-0,165 . . . SR.
“If I had a game to win I’d give Bob the ball,” Glendale Coach Chris Axelgard said of the Pacific League MVP. Moser (6-3, 1 save) gave up a mere 11 earned runs in compiling an earned-run average of 1.28. Moser, who will play for Glendale College next season, recorded his most impressive win against Pasadena, striking out 16 and allowing seven hits in a 14-inning marathon against the Pacific League runners-up.
COACH OF THE YEAR Chris Axelgard GLENDALE
In his first year as varsity coach, Axelgard, 29, led the Dynamiters to the Pacific League championship and the Southern Section 5-A playoffs for the first time in the school’s history. Glendale was 14-8 overall and boosted its league record from 6-8-1 last season to 12-3 this year. “It was a dream season,” Axelgard said. The foundation of the dream is well-represented in the form of four Glendale players on the All-Times’ team.
