Would-be Robbers Find Bank’s Cash to Be Moving Target

PHENIX CITY, Ala. — Two would-be bank robbers rushed into what used to be the First Alabama Bank, ordered employees into what used to be a teller’s station and finally realized the building now houses an accountant’s office.
Police said the masked gunmen fled the building Monday, leaving behind the black bag they intended to fill with cash.
“They got mud on their faces and no money,” police Capt. Doug Lee said. The two intruders were not captured.
The accounting firm of Ninas Easter Co. has been in the former bank since last month and has had several visitors walk in thinking the bank was still there.
