Aquino Suspends Investigators Trying to Regain Marcos Funds

MANILA — President Corazon Aquino today suspended the two investigators given the responsibility of finding and recovering at least $1 billion allegedly stolen from Philippine coffers by ousted President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
Aquino announced the decision after her second meeting in two days today with the two officials, whose simmering ill feeling exploded into a bitter feud over the last few days.
The officials--Chairman Ramon Diaz of the Presidential Commission on Good Government and Solicitor General Francisco Chavez--were ordered to take indefinite leaves of absence, threatening major delays in legal efforts to recover the money in the United States, Switzerland and the Philippines.
