HYANNIS PORT, Mass. — Kennedy family members gathered today on Cape Cod to serenade matriarch Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy with her favorite songs on her 98th birthday.
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), her only surviving son, flew home Friday from the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta to spend the weekend with his mother at the family compound at Hyannis Port with other members of the Kennedy clan.
Also on hand were Eunice and Sargent Shriver, Patricia Lawford, Ethel Kennedy and a number of grandchildren. New mother Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and her husband, Edwin, were not expected. Caroline gave birth last month to Rose’s namesake, Rose Kennedy Schlossberg, but Mrs. Kennedy has yet to see her great-granddaughter.
