A San Diego man was killed Monday when his pickup truck was broadsided by a van traveling about 65 m.p.h. through the intersection of Valley Parkway and 9th Avenue in Escondido, police said.
Martin Ewing Swart, 28, of Mira Mesa was traveling west on 9th Avenue, police said, and the van was traveling on Valley Parkway. The accident occurred at 3:17 p.m.; Swart was pronounced dead at Palomar Hospital 30 minutes later.
The driver of the van was a 16-year-old, who was treated for minor injuries at Palomar Hospital. He was released to the custody of his parents, police said.
Swart, the owner of Floor-Tek Maintenance Co. in San Diego, is survived by his wife, Sang.
