Searching for a Site for a New Orange County Jail

Regarding the county’s refusal to sell an agreed upon parcel to the Santa Ana Unified School District (Sept. 14) because they fear opposition to the Gypsum Canyon jail site:
Our supervisors are really saying that they are not committed to education in a largely Latino community. Instead, they seem to be bowing to the demands of a few boisterous, self-righteous, wealthy people who think all jails belong in Santa Ana.
What does this say to Santa Ana’s young Latino school children except that they can forget about improving themselves academically and instead face as a role model a future of criminal detention?
Shame on you, Supervisor Gaddi Vasquez.
