The Cal State Northridge soccer team avenged its only regular-season loss of last season, defeating Westmont, 3-1, Friday in a nonconference match at Westmont.
Mark Zarkowski, Scott Piri and Steve Lazarus each scored for the Matadors (6-4), who have won four in a row.
Leading, 2-1, late in the second half, Lazarus scored Northridge’s final goal after taking a breakaway pass from Piri.
“Laz hit a world-class shot over the goalie’s head,” Northridge Coach Marwan Ass’ad said. “It barely made it under the bar. You gotta be skillful to do that.”
