Local News in Brief : Drunk Driver in Silva Death Gets 10 Years

A La Habra man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in state prison for a drunk-driving collision that killed actor Trinidad Silva, who played a gang leader on TV’s “Hill Street Blues” and in the film “Colors.”
Norwalk Superior Court Commissioner John Torribio imposed the sentence on Robert Owens, 35, who pleaded guilty last month to three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter, drunk driving and hit and run.
Owens ran a red light in Whittier on July 31 and crashed his car into a pickup truck carrying Silva, 38, his wife, Sophia, 28, and their son, Samuel, 2. Silva and his son were hurled from the vehicle, but the child and the actor’s wife received only minor injuries.
