Santa Maria 34, Chaminade 6--It took the No. 2-ranked team in Division VII to hand visiting Chaminade, the Division’s top-ranked team, its first defeat.
Running back Brad Dandridge rushed for 218 yards and 4 touchdowns in 19 carries, and teammate Murray Dillon added 171 yards and a touchdown in 21 carries as the Saints ended Chaminade’s 4-game winning streak.
Chaminade quarterback Greg Baumgartner, who had thrown only 1 interception in 4 previous games, threw 2 against the Saints. He completed 16 of 32 for 225 yards, including a 38-yard score to Brady Mitchell.
Mitchell, who had 6 receptions for 101 yards, gave Chaminade a 6-0 lead in the first period, but on the ensuing possession Dandridge raced 80 yards for a touchdown to start the rout.
Dandridge, a 5-10, 180-pound senior, rushed for 128 yards in the first period.
